12: Great joy for everyone who wants it!

"... I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you‘... Luke 2, 10+11

Jesus may have come to earth as a normal baby, but he never ceased to be God. One day, when the baby had become a grown man, Jesus allowed cruel men to nail him to a cross so that he died. There he took the punishment for sin upon himself. That was part of God's loving plan to save you. Jesus was buried, but he came back to life. Through what Jesus did, God can give you joy that never fades!

See how Calvin discovers God's plan of salvation and how he accepts the gifts of salvation, joy and eternal life from God.

12 Calvin's discovery in the gold mine

Calvin is 21 years old and comes from Kabobo, a village in south-west Kenya.

When Calvin became an orphan at the age of seven, his oldest brother took him in.

He dropped out of school at the age of 14 and started working in a gold mine in his village to earn money.
Calvin did go to church from time to time, but he lived his everyday life without God.

In the gold mine, he worked with his school friend Steven.

He kept telling him about God, but in the end it was an emotional experience that awakened him.
At 8 o'clock in the morning, Calvin sets off for the gold mine.
There he meets his best friend Steven.

The two have not only been friends for years, but also work together every day in the mine.
First, the tools have to be stowed away in a bag...
...and then the descent into the mine begins. About 15 metres down into the shaft.
It is damp and dark down here.

Calvin uses a hammer and chisel to knock the chunks of rock off the wall.

Steven catches them in a bowl.
Working in the mine is dangerous at times.

When a side tunnel collapsed a few months ago and the two barely escaped alive, Steven talked to Calvin about God.
Calvin was shocked and realised that Jesus wanted to save him - not just in the mine, but for eternal life.

While still in the shaft, the two prayed together and Calvin submitted his life to the Lordship of Jesus.
