16: Joy inspired by Bible verses that you always have with you

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

I read about the Norwegian Marie Monsen, who was on a ship that was captured by pirates. She wrote: "Shortly before dawn I heard pistol shots and knew what was coming. I was immediately reminded of a word I have used often over the years: Isaiah 41:10. I write it down for you as I like to read it: ‘Fear not, Marie, for I am with you; be not afraid, Marie, for I am your God; I strengthen you, Marie, I also help you, yes, Marie, I uphold you with my righteous right hand!’’

Marie held on to this promise for 23 days. Deep down, it gave her hope, peace and joy. And it gave her the courage to tell the pirates about Jesus. In the end, she was released unharmed. Her experience shows how it is possible to have inner joy even in difficult situations.
