One day Lazarus, a good friend of Jesus, was sick and died.
Jesus had heard about Lazarus’ illness, but He did not come right away. Was it now too late to help Lazarus?
Lazarus had two sisters: Mary and Martha. They lived in Bethany.
When Jesus arrived, Martha ran to Him and cried, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died” (John 11:21).
Jesus replied, “Your brother will rise [live] again” (John 11:23).
Then He continued, “I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live” (John 11:25).
At that time dead people were not buried in the ground. Their graves were in caves in the rock and were closed with a large stone.
When Jesus arrived, Lazarus had already been three days in the grave.
Jesus too was very sad. He cried with Martha and Mary as He came to the grave.
“Take away the stone,” He commanded (John 11:39).
He looked up to Heaven and prayed. Then He called loudly, “Lazarus, come forth!” (John 11:43)
Lazarus came out of the grave! He was still wrapped in the graveclothes.
“Loose him, and let him go,” Jesus said (John 11:44).
Jesus had brought Lazarus back to Life! Many of the people watching believed in Jesus.
Jesus is the resurrection.
Jesus Himself came alive again on the third day after His death! Jesus lives!
Have you accepted Jesus as your Good Shepherd?
Then you do not need to be afraid of death. You will go to be with Him in Heaven forever.
